Keep an eye on your analytics.
Yep, it’s true. Recently we were reviewing the web traffic for everybody’s favourite website (visitgeelongbellarine.com) and noticed that something looked a little off.
As the digital savvy operators that we are, we use Google Analytics to monitor the health and effectiveness of all our websites; keeping track of visitors, session times, bounce rates and lots of helpful info about location and behavior. Best part is, it’s free.
What we realised is that we’d been targeted by evil internet robots… well, not evil so much as annoying. The result was that it looked like we’d suddenly seen a massive increase in visitors from the US of A, without changing a thing.
Luckily, we know some smart people who helped us identify and then fix the situation, and we’re back to tracking our real results and gathering insights that we use to improve our website, our marketing and our digital strategy.
But it serves as a timely reminder to check your analytics regularly – whether it’s Google Analytics, Facebook Insights or any number of useful tools – and use the information to improve your business!
