It’s been a big week. Incredible projects for the region.
It was like winning lotto on Christmas day.
The announcement we’ve been waiting so long for about the Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre came this week, with the Victorian Government budget committing funds to the project.
Nationally, the business events sector generates $30 billion in direct expenditure and Geelong and The Bellarine currently attracts $139 million of it. A dedicated convention and exhibition facility creates new opportunities for us to grow and for our region to take a bigger piece of that pie.
We’re now waiting for the commitment of funds from the Federal Government as part of the Geelong City Deal and for the details of the project to be worked through.
It comes as we welcomed our 600th member to Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine: Air Asia.
An international airport. A convention and exhibition centre. There is a huge amount of opportunity, growth and excitement in our very near future, it’s up to our industry to work together to capitalise.
Let’s go, Team Tourism!
