Over 3,500 students from more than 90 countries study in Geelong annually.
In 2016-2017, the export value of Victoria’s international education sector from students studying onshore was $9.1 billion, making it the state’s largest services export industry. The international education sector also contributes to growth in tourism, hospitality, arts & culture and helps drive local investment and innovation, not to mention the huge cultural benefits of having students from all over the world active in the local community.
The Study Geelong program we coordinate exists to encourage and support our international student programs. Comprised of schools, ELICOS, vocational education & training and higher education providers and the region’s peak tourism body, Study Geelong is focused on promoting the region as an attractive, welcoming, socially inclusive and quality education destination. It strives to enhance the experiences of international students and promote the economic and social value of international students to the community.
Plus, there’s a huge boost in visiting friends and relatives – just take a look around town at all the families celebrating during graduation days!
One of our favourite parts of the program is the Study Geelong Ambassadors – a select bunch of champions who represent the program, share their experiences online and participate in a number of professional development initiatives (including coming to work in our offices for a few weeks!)
