OVERVIEW

You’re invited to expand your knowledge of First Nations culture further with skills to take back to your business and workforce.

Wadawurrung people are the Traditional Owners of this land. Wadawurrung people have looked after and cared for this Country for thousands of generations. And are still caring for Country to this very day.

Prior to European settlement, Australia’s First Nations People occupied traditional lands for over 60,000 years. Impacts of colonisation on cultural knowledge, sacred sites and language, decimated Traditional Owner communities. Today, Australia’s First Nations People represent the world’s oldest living culture.

The session starts with a Welcome to Country.

During the education session you will then learn about:

– The difference between a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country, to then develop an Acknowledgement for your business

– Wadawurrung history and truth telling

– Understanding the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006

– Cultural awareness, perceptions of identity, language

– What is a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAPs), and role of reconciliation action plans

– Paleert Tjaara Dja (Let’s make Country good together) How we can all help, by working together to make Wadawurrung Country and culture strong.

– And most importantly, how this information is helpful within your tourism business.

We acknowledge that Geelong and The Bellarine is Wadawurrung Country.

We welcome visitors to our region, a place we acknowledge has been cared for by the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation for thousands of years.

The environment is a key reason visitors choose this destination. Traditional Owners sharing the beauty and joy of these lands and waterways is a privilege, one we repay with respect for their country, Elders and people.
