Planning a trip to the region?

TGGB Executive Director Update

Good evening tourism colleagues and friends.

We’re more than half way through the six week restricted period across Victoria and I’ve been encouraged by the infection numbers steadily reducing.

At his press conference this morning the Premier indicated that the state of emergency would be extended, but that does not necessarily mean restrictions on movement for all that time.

We’re getting used to wearing masks (and remembering to wear masks!) and making these measures part of ‘normal’ life will help get people moving, visiting, experiencing and supporting our industry again.

In the meantime, there are a number of initiatives under way that will encourage people to support our businesses during this time.

Dan Andrews launched Click for Vic yesterday, with Visit Victoria delivering the message that there are plenty of products across the state to enjoy from a distance – at least until they can be experienced on-site again.

The best way for businesses to get involved is by making sure your online ATDW listing is up to date and looking schmick. Click for Vic is showcased through Visit Victoria, which is just one of the places your listing is published. Let us know if you need a hand.

If you’re a producer or maker, the Victorian Country Market is a key initiative ofClick for Vic. A virtual farmers market, it’s a way for Victorians to fall in love with and purchase regional produce. Sign up here.

Closer to home, the City of Greater Geelong has launched a new initiative encouraging residents to support regional operators. It’s Our Backyard is about locals supporting locals. Likewise, the Borough of Queenscliffe 3225 Love Local Shop Local campaign has been sharing stories and support for local businesses among the community.

With so much focus on supporting local it’s worth adding #clickforvic , #itsourbackyardgeelong and #3225lovelocal to your hashtag repertoire.

During a time without any visitation, these campaigns promote a sentiment we can all get behind, and our industry is grateful for the support we’re getting from our communities. Whenever you can, opt for a local business, supplier, gift or meal – every purchase helps.

I hope to be in touch again soon, with good news about the easing of restrictions. In the meantime, our team are always available here and on (03) 5223 2588 and our COVID Resource Centre remains up to date with the latest official updates.

Take care, and remember your mask!

      Sincerely,

      Tracy Carter
      Acting Executive Director
Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine
